Network Engineer and Project Lead:

X8 seeks a well-rounded Network Engineer with working experience in USCYBERCOM, NSA or other Intelligence Community (IC) partners in cyberspace operations. The selected applicant will manage complex network and systems integration projects for DoD operational systems. Our customer is the leading voice in DoD operational cyber development, delivering significant capabilities for USCYBERCOM and its Service Partners.  X8 SME and Engineers work with a smart, dynamic and growing DoD customer, actually changing how cyber operations are conducted.  This position directly supports operations and the fielding of future operational capabilities being deployed now.


Network Engineers will:

  • Guide the development and integration of enterprise-level software that enhance bandwidth,  dataflow, system security, secure communications, accessibility and reliability of key operational services.
  • Serve as the hub for programmatic and technical decision making, advocating for industry best practices and leveraging lessons learned from years of working in cyber operational environments.
  • Ensure project planning meets the rigorous demands for operational deployment and effectiveness through interactions with users, developers and the customer. 
  • Shepherd operational systems, dataflows and processes through Command wide programs to ensure RMF and compliance considerations are in place to support operational activity.
  • Conduct operational research projects, assess other systems, document opinions and help integrate new capabilities into a larger cyberspace architecture.


Duties Responsibilities:

  • Assess the technical solutions of contract performers, edit requirements and design technical solutions to meet the operational needs of the users and the customer. 
  • Ensures operating criteria are met by software and hard ware deployments.
  • Provide technical assistance and security guidance in the areas of information systems, telecommunications, RMF and networks to programmers, managers, and operators.
  • Monitors the installation and testing of solutions to ensure they meet goals and requirements of the of the customer
  • Provides informed advocacy, writing, and teamwork with other cyberspace SMEs to help think beyond normal boundaries to problem solve deployment issues on site and to propose solutions that needs of the customer.


  • Possess a minimum of 5 years demonstrated operational experience in the military, Federal Government or comparable civilian position in Information Operations, Systems, Technology, or Cybersecurity Fields.
  • Network certification such as CCNP, SEC+, CEH or comparable.
  • Understanding of cross domain solutions, VPN products, guards, routers, switches and other virtual solutions in cloud environments
  • Demonstrated ability to capture, refine and manage customer requirements
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with technical and non-technical leaders
  • Demonstrated skill applying advanced IT principles, concepts, methods, standards, and practices sufficient to accomplish assignments.
  • Knowledge of IT Security concepts, standards, and methods with the ability to understand and contribute to solution architectures
  • Knowledge of various Operating Systems, both Windows and *NIX variants (i.e. Windows 10, CentOS, Kali, Ubuntu, RedHat, etc…)
  • Understanding of Active Directory Services and LDAP
  • Ability to abstract tasks (directed or implied) and see tasks through completion

Highly Desired:

  • Experience working with USCYBERCOM offensive cyberspace operations infrastructures
  • Understanding of DoD and/or IC cyber operations processes
  • Completion of Windows or Linux Certifications or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity with programming in scripting languages like (Perl, Python, Shell, PowerShell, etc.), experience with code review and testing of the above languages above mentioned desired.


  • BS/MS in a technical field like; Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems or Software Engineering). 
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience as an Information Technology Specialist,  Network Specialist, Cybersecurity Analyst, etc.
  • No Degree?  No worries – three (3) additional years relevant experience as an Information System specialist (as described above) 
  • At least ONE (1) of the following certifications or similar:
    • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
    • CompTIA Security+ (SEC+)
    • CompTIA Network+ (NET+)
    • AWS Certified Advanced Networking.
    • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)
